Brit Stops 2016 adds 150+ new motorhome stopover sites

Brit Stops 2016Disclosure: I received a free review copy of Brit Stops 2016 for this article but did not receive any payment and was not required to write a positive review.

Do you fancy steering clear of busy campsites and staying at free stopover sites including country pubs, farm shops, vineyards and breweries?

This is the core purpose of the Brit Stops Directory. Now in its sixth year, Brit Stops 2016 includes details of 649 free motorhome stopover sites across the UK and Ireland.

The majority of these locations are country pubs and farm shops, but there are also vineyards, cafés, breweries and other interesting one-off locations. As you’d expect, many of these sites are in stunning rural locations, often with great views and very peaceful nights!

Brit Stops covers the entire UK and Ireland as well. Some areas have more stops than others, but coverage is fairly comprehensive around the UK. Features of the 2016 Brit Stops guide include:

  • Ordnance Survey maps showing all host sites, with motorways and major A roads marked
  • Post codes for sat nav plus written directions
  • Clear symbols showing what facilities (if any) are available
  • Important information such as single track lanes, etc. noted
  • Index of hosts by county
  • Over 150 new host sites added (649 locations in this edition)
  • Monthly photographic competitions to win next year’s book

It’s important to remember that Brit Stops are stopovers, not campsites. They are free to use and you are not obliged to buy anything from your hosts.

However these sites are sometimes locked at night and may also be someone’s home. You should aim to come and go at reasonable times, and should arrive with full water tanks and empty waste tanks. Campsite-style motorhome services are not usually available, although some sites may offer certain facilities, which are specified in the guide.

What about the cost? This year’s Brit Stops guide costs £27.50, which is roughly the same as the cost of one night on my local Caravan Club site! Each year’s guide is valid from 1 March – 28 February and includes a membership sticker for your windscreen.

If you’re looking for an interesting and cheap alternative to campsites, then Brit Stops are ideal and come highly recommended.

  • Paul Imber

When will the British Stops 2017 be availabl?

    • Hi Paul,

Each year’s guide is valid from 1 March to 28 February the following year. So the current 2016 guide expires on 28 February 2017.

Brit Stops 2017 will probably be available mid-Feb. (This review of the 2016 guide in April 2016 was quite late — the guide had been out for a while.)

More info on the Brit Stops website (click here).

      Hope this helps,

      Roland
