Scotland is without a doubt our favourite part of the UK to explore by campervan — but finding conveniently located campsites can be a little more difficult than usual, due to the rural terrain and the isolated locations of many campsites.

What’s needed is a map, with all the locations shown clearly on one side, and the details of each site printed on the back…

As if by magic, a map showing more than 400 campsites across Scotland’s mainland and island, complete with site details, recently dropped through my letter box.

It came courtesy of ScottishCamping.com, which has been producing and maintaining a directory of campsites in Scotland since 1999!

The Scotland Campsites and Caravan Parks Map 3rd Edition is simple but effective:

  • On one side, a large map of Scotland with numbered locations that are colour-coded to indicate whether they are seasonal or open all year round
  • On the reverse, the name, address and telephone number of each site, together with a graphical key showing whether the sites are suitable for motorhomes, caravans and tent camping, plus whether they accept pets and provide electric hookup or not.

Don’t forget the website!

The Scotland Campsites and Caravan Parks map is an ideal addition to your glove box map collection, but it’s worth noting that much of the same information appears to be available on the ScottishCamping.com website, where a ‘find a pitch’ search facility is available which allows you to search by location or site name.

This has the added bonus of including both customer reviews and photos of many of the sites, giving an extra insight into the type of location that’s on offer.

Recommended

Overall, I’d recommend both the ScottishCamping.com website and the Scotland Campsites and Caravan Parks map. Both work well individually, but are at their best together, so you can plan a route while simultaneously seeing full details of each campsite.

Make sure you get the latest edition of the map — it’s currently on the 3rd edition, which was published in March 2015.

The map is on sale on the ScottishCamping.com website and on Amazon (Amazon⇒) and costs £7.50.
