Camping & Caravanning Club – An Introduction

I recently joined the Camping & Caravanning Club. There were two reasons:

• Access to the club’s network of UK sites – especially the rural and peaceful certificated sites
• To get a CCI (Camping Card International) card

The first reason is fairly self-explanatory – the Club offers a total of more than 1,300 sites across the UK, to which members get preferential access or sole use (depending on site type). I am especially looking forward to staying at Certificated Sites – they are limited to five motorhomes or caravans and are usually in fairly secluded locations, making a great way to get away from it all.

The CCI card may require more explanation. It’s an identity card for campers that is recognised in most countries worldwide, except for the USA and Canada. CCI cards are required to stay at some European campsites but more importantly can sometimes be handed over in place of your passport when staying at foreign sites – enabling you to keep hold of your passport.

A final benefit provided by the CCI system is that of insurance. It may not be something you have ever considered necessary when camping (I hadn’t!) but as a CCI cardholder, you are protected by third party insurance for costs of up to 2.5m Swiss Francs resulting from accidental damage caused by you while staying on a campsite or in a guest  house or hotel.
