Tour the British Coast in a VW Campervan

At least, that’s what the Sunday Times correspondant Chris Haslam is doing.

Having been leant a brand new Volkswagen California (VW’s own Transporter van conversion), Haslam is taking six weeks to tour the coast of Britain in a quest to discover the UK’s best seaside locations and culinary treats.

Early indications are that the delights of the British seaside won’t tempt me away from going abroad for my holidays – not least for the weather – but you can make your own mind up by following ‘camper van man’s’ (as they call him) journey on the Times’ website.

Of more interest is perhaps the Volkswagen California itself. This doesn’t seem to have been mentioned in detail or pictured by The Times, yet, but you can find full details and specs here on VW’s website.

Needless to say it’s a tasty mix of high quality, medium-size van and well-thought out specification. I’d have one tomorrow if I could afford it – but in the meantime I’ll stick to scouring eBay for second-hand Transporter conversions.
