Book review: Sea View Camping – Wales

The latest publication from motorhome stopover specialists Vicarious Books is Sea View Camping Wales, a campsite guide which follows the same format as Sea View Camping – Scotland, which we reviewed recently.

As the title suggests, Sea View Camping Wales covers coastal campsites with sea views in Wales. It claims to be the “most comprehensive collection of sea view campsites located around Wales”, and looking at the content page listing 112 sea view campsites, I’m willing to believe that it is.

We’ve not visited much of the Welsh coastline, but looking through this guide was interesting, and certainly made me want to hop in the van and head over for a closer look.

Comprehensive, illustrated & inspected

As usual for Vicarious Books, this guide is very well illustrated. Each campsite gets half a page with a colour photo, address, description, directions including coordinates – handy for those who prefer sat navs — price guide and a comprehensive key-based guide to the facilities on offer at each campsite. It’s worth emphasising this is a campsite guide, not a motorhome stopover guide — the locations are campsites and this guide is aimed at tent campers and caravanners, as well as motorhomers.

Camp sites with Cymru Wales awarded star ratings are indicated, as are those which are Camping & Caravanning Club/Caravan Club Certified Sites and Certified Locations.

As with most of Vicarious Books guides, all the sites in Sea View Camping Wales have been inspected by the book’s researcher, Andy Clarke. This helps with the overall accuracy of the guide and provides a very consistent standard of information, as all sites were inspected by the same person.

Final thoughts

If, like us, you haven’t explored Wales as much as some other areas of the UK, and you love camping on the coast and waking up to the sound of breaking waves, then you really can’t go wrong by taking this guide with you, and at just £9.99, it should easily pay for itself.
